John Wilson

John is an experienced advocate who appears regularly as counsel in criminal trials in the District Court of South Australia. His trial experience spans a broad range of criminal matters, including:

  • commercial drug trafficking and manufacturing;
  • money laundering;
  • the possession and discharge of firearms;
  • serious violence (including armed robberies; home invasions and causing harm and serious harm);
  • serious sexual offending (including matters involving multiple alleged victims);
  • the possession and dissemination of child exploitation material;
  • abuse of public office;
  • offences of dishonesty (including allegations of large-scale, systematic thefts);
  • arson; and
  • criminal neglect.

 

John also has experience appearing in the Supreme Court of South Australia as trial counsel and in appellate proceedings before single Judges and the Court of Appeal.

He has developed a particular interest in, and familiarity with, expert evidence concerning:

  • material extracted from electronic devices such as computers and mobile telephones;
  • telecommunications network records, including cell tower location data; and
  • DNA


In addition to his experience in criminal law, John has experience appearing in inquiries, having acted as Counsel Assisting the State Coroner in a variety of Inquests, including those concerning complex medical issues and deaths in custody.

After being admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in 2011, John commenced his legal career as an Associate to the Judges of the District Court and, subsequently, as Associate to the Honourable Justice Michael David of the Supreme Court.
