William Mickan

Will Mickan practices principally in criminal law, with a particular focus on criminal appeals.

Will joined the independent bar in June 2022. Between 2019 and 2022, Will worked as a prosecutor for the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (SA). Will also worked as a solicitor at Shaw & Henderson, practicing principally in criminal law.

Will is an experienced trial advocate, regularly appearing in District Court trials. His trial experience spans a broad range of serious offences, including sexual offences, offences of violence and commercial drug offences. Will has often appeared as counsel in Supreme Court bail reviews. He also has experience appearing as junior counsel in the Supreme Court in relation to applications for indefinite detention and offences of murder.

Will is particularly experienced in appellate matters, regularly appearing in the Court of Appeal and Court of Criminal Appeal as junior counsel in appeals against conviction and sentence. He has significant experience in drafting written submissions.
